Graduate: 6.0 base, program by program
Graduate programs set their own English requirements on top of the base TOEFL 71, IELTS 6.0, PTE 48 or Duolingo 100. Computer Science (MA, MS, PhD) and Data Science (MS) list TOEFL 71, IELTS 6.0, PTE 50 and Duolingo 100; business master's, Public Health (MPH), Aerospace Engineering and architecture programs list TOEFL 79, IELTS 6.5, PTE 58 and Duolingo 110; programs such as Clinical Psychology (PhD) and Creative Writing (MFA) list IELTS 7.0.
Some graduate programs offer conditional admission, with English classes at Kent State's ESL Center before you start; you still submit a test. In the business college, conditional admission needs at least IELTS 5.5, Duolingo 95, TOEFL 59 or PTE 46. See the graduate program table.

You are exempt if primarily educated in a listed country such as Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Ghana, Ireland, Nigeria, New Zealand or the UK (Kenya, Singapore and a few others only for English-system education), with a US bachelor's or master's, or after two years of full-time US post-secondary study. India is not on the list, and Kent State does not accept medium-of-instruction letters. See the waiver page.
Undergraduates need TOEFL 71, IELTS Academic or IELTS Indicator 6.0, Duolingo 100 or PTE Academic (or Academic Online) 48, or SAT reading and writing 510 or ACT English 21. Those below the minimum can be admitted conditionally if they meet academic requirements. See English language proficiency.
Student visa and next steps
The US F-1 student visa sets no English test score of its own. What counts is the requirement Kent State sets for admission, which leads to your Form I-20. For the wider picture of studying in the US with each test, see IELTS for the USA and PTE for the USA.
Requirements change between admission cycles. Check the Kent State graduate program English requirements page again before you book a test, and check your own program page, which can set a higher bar.
