What Duolingo score do you need for UT Austin?

Graduate scores must be sent by the testing agency, and self-reported scores are not accepted. Send DET results to "University of Texas at Austin - Graduate Admissions". The graduate page says minimum scores may vary with your major and with considerations such as employment as a teaching assistant, and tells applicants to check which test their programme prefers.

You are exempt if you are from a qualifying country where English is the sole official and primary conversational language, or (for undergraduates) you graduate from a high school there or in the US after at least three years of study; graduate applicants are exempt with a bachelor's degree from the US or a qualifying country. Neither page states a validity period or Duolingo subscores.

For comparison, both the undergraduate and graduate pages set IELTS at an overall band of 6.5 on the Academic test and TOEFL at 79, or 4 on the 6-point scale.

Neither page publishes a conditional admission or pathway route. UT Austin does not accept TOEFL ITP, TOEFL Essentials or IELTS General Training, so a retake on DET, TOEFL iBT or IELTS Academic is the route the pages describe.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UT Austin programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
