What IELTS score do you need for the University of the West of Scotland?

These course pages were read on 8 October 2026. The main English page asks NMC nursing and midwifery applicants for 7.0, with 7.0 in reading, listening and speaking and 6.5 in writing, but the Adult Nursing page shows only the general 6.0 block, so confirm with admissions. Only the MBA page states a PTE score.

UWS's English page lists these school results. School-English routes for Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh are not stated, and UWS's country pages only link back to the English page. Medium of instruction letters count only for degree study in a majority English-speaking country. The MBA page gives a five-year limit for WAEC scratchcards, against ten years on the English page.

UWS's deposit page sets the pre-CAS deposit at 75% of the net tuition fee, and 100% for applicants from Bangladesh and Pakistan. Its Scottish campuses CAS page says it does not presently require more than 75%, so the pages differ. Its application guide mentions a credibility interview "where relevant", and UWS processes applications up to six weeks before the start.

UWS's pre-sessional English runs 10 weeks (from IELTS for UKVI 5.0 with 4.5) or 5 weeks (from 5.5 with no more than one component at 5.0). The page still showed 2025 dates and no price when read.

For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your UWS programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
