Graduate: IELTS 6.5, valid for two years
International applicants who did not graduate from a US college and whose native language is not English submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo. Scores are valid for two years from the test date, and the TOEFL Special Home Edition is accepted. Unofficial reports can be attached for review, and official scores are needed once you accept an offer. Use TOEFL code B994 and send IELTS by e-delivery to "Wake Forest University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences". See GRE and English proficiency exams.
The School of Business accepts TOEFL (including TOEFL Essentials) or IELTS and calls its scores guidelines rather than cut-offs: TOEFL 5.0 or IELTS 7.5 for the MS in Management, TOEFL 100 or IELTS 7.0 for the MBA. You are exempt if your undergraduate degree is from an English-speaking college or university, and the committee may waive the test if you have lived and worked in the US for an extended period. Scores are valid for two years; use TOEFL code B818, and no IELTS code is needed. See the MS in Management and MBA pages. The Law School's VISP page asks for TOEFL 100 or IELTS 7.0. See VISP admissions.

First-year applicants whose first language is not English, or whose school does not teach in English, submit TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo. The requirement is waived after at least three years at a school where English is the main language of instruction. Self-reported scores are accepted, English tests are not superscored, and the TOEFL code is 5885. Wake Forest still accepts TOEFL scores from before the 2026 scale change. See international students.
Student visa and next steps
The US F-1 student visa sets no English test score of its own. What counts is the requirement Wake Forest sets for admission, which leads to your Form I-20. For the wider picture of studying in the US with each test, see IELTS for the USA and PTE for the USA.
Requirements change between admission cycles. Check the Wake Forest Graduate School English proficiency page again before you book a test, and check your own program page, which can set a higher bar.
