ESL pathway, WASSCE and test-optional entry

An undergraduate with an IELTS of 5.0 can submit an ESL certificate showing proof of language proficiency, provided the IELTS date is not after the dates of ESL completion. Students on an English pathway through a Walsh-approved ESL training school are asked to contact their admissions counsellor for instructions.

If you are applying from Ghana, Liberia, Sierra Leone, Nigeria or Gambia, the page says you must submit your WASSCE results. International students from an English-speaking country, or who attended a US or IB-certified high school for at least two years with a GPA of 3.0 or higher, may apply test optional.

Submitting scores and how to check

The page says official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores should be uploaded through the application portal or sent to the international admissions office at intladmissions@walsh.edu, and that Walsh verifies results with the testing agency.

For graduate study, the page asks for GRE or GMAT depending on your programme, so read the page for your own graduate programme as well.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Walsh programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.

Minimum vs competitive score

Where Walsh University publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.

Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.

If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
