What IELTS score do you need for WPI?

Applicants whose native language is not English must submit official TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo scores. WPI accepts the TOEFL Home Edition but not paper IELTS test report forms. Note that WPI's international students page lists IELTS 7 for master's degrees, while the application requirements page says 6.5 for most programs, so confirm with your program before you test.

You can request a waiver after two years (four semesters) of full-time study within the last five years in a listed English-speaking country, such as Australia, Canada (except Quebec), Kenya, Singapore, the UAE or the UK, or after three years of work in the US. India is not on the list. See the application requirements.

International first-year applicants submit TOEFL (90 with no sub-score below 20 before 21 January 2026, or 4.5 after), IELTS (7.0 with no band below 6.5), Duolingo (125) or PTE (61); these are recommended scores, not hard minimums. InitialView or Vericant interviews can supplement a test but do not replace it. Citizens of an English-speaking country who attended an English-speaking high school for four years may be exempt.
