York St John's country entry requirements page says "applications from India will only be accepted through our approved partner", Hallbridge Education Group in Delhi. For Indian undergraduates it considers 60% in All India Senior School Certificate English or CBSE/CISCE, or 65% from other state boards. Nigerian undergraduates can use WAEC or NECO English at C6 dated 2005 or later, and postgraduates may use WAEC or NECO C6 as an IELTS 6.0 equivalent.

Online pre-sessional and the Student visa
York St John's pre-sessional page offers online courses for September 2026 entry: 10 weeks from 8 June 2026 for £2,000, entry IELTS 5.0 with no skill below 4.5, and 5 weeks from 13 July for £1,200, entry 5.5 with no skill below 5.0, for a 6.0 degree. You need an approved test such as IELTS Academic, PTE, TOEFL iBT, Cambridge or LanguageCert to apply, and no visa for the online course.
For a Student visa, UK Visas and Immigration asks for English at CEFR B2 for degree-level study and B1 below degree level, per gov.uk. At degree level, gov.uk adds, your university can assess your English itself and may ask you to take a different test.
