1

Have you ever been to a housewarming party?

Yes, a few times. The most memorable one was when my close friend moved into a newly built flat near the city centre. A group of us went over on a Saturday evening to celebrate, and we ended up chatting and eating takeaway on the floor because he hadn't bought a sofa yet.

2

What gifts do people usually bring to a housewarming party in your country?

It’s quite common to bring something practical for the home, like a potted plant, fancy scented candles, or maybe a good bottle of wine. If you know the host really well, you might club together with friends to buy a useful kitchen appliance like a coffee maker or toaster.

3

Do you enjoy attending these kinds of gatherings?

Definitely, yes. I really like seeing how people decorate and personalise their living spaces. It's usually a fairly relaxed atmosphere compared to going out to a noisy pub or club, so it’s much easier to have proper conversations and catch up with old friends without shouting.

4

Did your family hold a party whenever you moved house as a child?

Not really, to be honest. We didn't move very often, but when we did relocate to our current house, my parents preferred to settle in quietly before inviting anyone around. They felt that organising an event on top of unpacking boxes would just be far too stressful.

5

Would you like to host a housewarming party in the future?

I'd love to, especially once I get a place of my own. I think it’s a wonderful way to mark a new chapter in life. I’d probably keep it quite casual, maybe organise a small barbecue in the garden so I don't spend the whole evening stuck in the kitchen.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
