1

Do you like looking at sculptures?

Yes, I really do, especially large outdoor installations. I find three-dimensional art much more engaging than traditional paintings because you can walk right around it. There is a striking bronze statue of a horse in my local town square that I always admire on my way to work.

2

Have you ever tried making a sculpture yourself?

Only back in primary school, to be honest. We were given some grey clay in an art class and told to mould an animal, and I ended up making quite a messy little dog. It wasn't particularly impressive, but getting my hands dirty was great fun.

3

What kind of sculptures are popular in your country?

In public spaces, traditional stone and bronze monuments dedicated to historical figures are definitely the most common. Having said that, contemporary abstract pieces made of polished steel or recycled materials have become increasingly popular in city parks over the last few years.

4

Do you think it is important to have sculptures in public places?

Absolutely, because they add character to otherwise dull urban environments. A well-placed sculpture can turn a plain concrete plaza into a vibrant community gathering spot. It also makes art accessible to ordinary people, rather than hiding it away inside expensive galleries.

5

Would you like to learn how to make sculptures in the future?

I'd love to give it a go, particularly stone carving or woodwork. It seems incredibly therapeutic to chip away at raw material until a distinct shape emerges. I'm actually thinking of signing up for a weekend sculpting workshop at a local community centre next year.

Details are invented. Use the shape, not the sentences: examiners mark memorised answers down.
