The bar chart illustrates the gender distribution of academic staff across seven different university faculties in 2016. Overall, it is clear that gender representation varies significantly depending on the field of study, with men being more prevalent in technical and professional disciplines, whereas women represent a higher proportion in humanities and education.
In terms of female representation, the Education faculty shows the highest percentage at 72%, followed by Arts at 58%. Medicine also shows a relatively balanced distribution, with 50% female staff and 49% male staff. Conversely, female representation is lowest in Engineering, where they account for only 18% of the staff, followed by Science at 38% and Business at 35%.
Regarding male staff, Engineering exhibits the most pronounced gender gap, with men comprising 85% of the faculty. Similarly, Business and Science both report 62% male staff, while Law shows a 60% male majority. In contrast, the Education faculty has the lowest proportion of male staff at 25%. Overall, the figures highlight a distinct divide, with male staff outnumbering their female counterparts in five out of the seven faculties surveyed.
