What universities ask for
Each university sets its own English score, and some do not take PTE at all. Three English-medium universities we checked on their official pages:
| University / level | PTE Academic | IELTS |
|---|---|---|
| McGill University (Canada), undergraduate | PTE Academic 65, no component below 60 | IELTS Academic 6.5, no component below 6.0 |
| McGill University, graduate programmes | Not accepted | IELTS 6.5 (some programmes ask more) |
| University of Melbourne (Australia), English Level 1 | PTE Academic 64, at least 60 in each skill | IELTS 6.5, at least 6.0 in each skill |
McGill accepts IELTS only when sent electronically by the test centre, and does not accept One Skill Retake. McGill does not accept PTE or IELTS Online for graduate admission. Melbourne gives every course an English level on its course page; Level 1 is the lowest in its table.
