PTE Rescheduling, Refunds and Vouchers: India Booking Guide

Changing a PTE appointment can cost more than the new test fee alone. Check whether you can reschedule, what refund applies to the original booking and whether a voucher changes the payment terms. The examples below explain the calculation before you commit.

Can you reschedule a PTE appointment?

Pearson's detailed rescheduling policy permits free changes when more than 14 full calendar days remain, with a maximum of six reschedules per appointment. At 14 days or fewer, rescheduling is unavailable; you must cancel and book again. Review the cancellation terms before doing so.

Do not apply an older guide's “pay a rescheduling fee within two weeks” rule to the current process. Check the options actually available for your booking in myPTE. An emergency request is a separate process: Pearson considers supporting evidence, and approval is not automatic. Follow the emergency instructions on the official policy page.

How much is refunded if you cancel?

Pearson's dedicated refund policy sets these ordinary cancellation windows relative to the booked test time:

• More than 14 days: 100% of the test fee.
• 14 days down to more than 7 days: 50%.
• 7 days or fewer: no refund.

Check the exact time as well as the date. Voucher payment restrictions are separate, as explained below.

Try a boundary check: under these ordinary rules, what happens if you cancel exactly 14 days before the booked time? What about exactly 7 days?

Reveal the 14-day and 7-day answers

Exactly 14 days falls in the 50% refund window. Exactly 7 days falls in the no-refund window. “Two weeks before” is not the same as “more than 14 days before.” Review your own booking's applicable terms before confirming cancellation.

Calculate the net cost and the cash needed separately

For your own budget, use: original payment − refund received + replacement payment + additional travel or accommodation. An expected refund does not reduce the amount you need to pay for a new appointment today. Save both confirmations so you can reconcile the final cost after the refund arrives.

PTE discount vouchers: what should you verify?

Pearson's payment policy says voucher payments apply to the test fee, not a rescheduling fee, and cannot be refunded by Pearson. Do not assume that an ordinary cash-refund illustration guarantees money back for a voucher booking.

• Confirm that the seller and offer are legitimate before payment; use Pearson's official booking help if uncertain.
• Check the eligible test, country, expiry date and whether the terms limit when you can book or sit the test.
• Compare the final amount payable with a direct booking, including any separate service charge.
• Read the seller's cancellation and unused-voucher terms; keep a copy with the receipt.
• Confirm that a preparation-platform coupon discounts the product you intend to buy. A BandLadder practice offer is not automatically a Pearson exam-fee discount.

Try an offer comparison: fictional Offer A is a 100-unit exam booking. Offer B is advertised at 92 units but adds a 5-unit service charge and requires a 12-unit preparation package you do not need. Which has the lower upfront cost?

Offer A costs 100 units; Offer B costs 109. The larger headline discount does not make B cheaper: 92 + 5 + 12 = 109. These are invented figures for practice, not current prices or available offers. For a real offer, compare the total and the refund restrictions, not just the discount percentage.

Before you confirm a change

1. Confirm the deadline for your result to reach the receiving organisation.
2. Check a suitable replacement appointment and its current price without assuming availability.
3. Read the applicable cancellation or voucher terms for the existing booking.
4. Calculate the money needed now and the net cost after any eligible refund.
5. Save the change confirmation and verify the replacement appointment in your account.

Use the remaining preparation time well

Choose one weakness from recent practice rather than simply repeat full tests. For Speaking, listen for missing ideas or unclear delivery. For Writing, check that you answered the task and supported the main points. Practise a fresh prompt after making a specific change.
