What IELTS score does Algoma University require?

Undergraduates are exempt by country of study only if they studied in English in a country on Algoma's list, which does not include India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal or Sri Lanka. Algoma's international admissions page says proof of English proficiency is required for India's CBSE, ISC and State Board certificates. The $5,000 Chancellor's Award also needs IELTS 7.0 with no band below 6.0.

Graduate program pages exempt four or more full-time years at an approved post-secondary institution outside Canada where English was the primary language of instruction. Algoma's graduate credential page nevertheless marks the English test as "Required" for India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal and Sri Lanka, so ask Algoma which rule it applies to your degree before skipping the test.

Graduate test scores must have been taken within 24 months of the application submission date, and Algoma can ask any applicant for a test. An undergraduate validity period, and a position on IELTS One Skill Retake, are not stated by Algoma. Undergraduate scores must come directly from the examining board.

Applicants below the scores can meet the requirement through an approved English pathway partner. For graduate study, the program pages name the RCIIS IELTS Preparation Course with a 6.5 exit score, or its EAP course at 70% plus IELTS 6.0 in every band, and ILAC's University Pathway (PW 3.3) for the MSc in Computer Science.

Algoma's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, and CLB 7 too if you graduate from "any other university program", which must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The lower CLB 5 applies only to college, polytechnic and other non-university programs. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in each skill (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
