One Skill Retake, online tests and validity

Undergraduate Admissions accepts IELTS One Skill Retake, and its list of accepted online tests includes IELTS, the TOEFL Home Edition, Duolingo, CAEL Online and PTE Academic Online. Graduate Studies also accepts One Skill Retake results alongside a standard IELTS test.

Graduate results must be dated within two years of the application date, and for IELTS the two years run from the original test date, not the One Skill Retake date. An undergraduate validity period is not stated by Brock.

Exemptions and the IELP pathway

Undergraduates with at least three years of full-time, non-ESL study in English, with strong English and humanities grades, can request an exemption through Brock's ELP Exemption Form. Master's applicants are exempt after three or more years of post-secondary study taught in English in a country on Brock's exempt list; other graduate waivers are approved rarely.

Undergraduates who meet everything except the English score may request admission to the Intensive English Language Program (IELP) and enter their degree automatically after it. Completing IELP Level 5 also meets the graduate standard minimum.

Study permit and PGWP: separate rules

Brock's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, and CLB 7 too if you graduate from "any other university program", which must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The lower CLB 5 applies only to college, polytechnic and other non-university programs. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in each skill (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
