What IELTS score does Capilano University require?

Both intake versions accept four or more consecutive years of full-time education in English in Canada or a country where English is the principal language, and four or more years at an eligible international high school that teaches in English in a country where the primary language is not English. CapU does not define "eligible" on this page, so check whether your Indian English-medium school counts.

A degree from an English-medium university counts only in a country where English is the principal language; India is not on CapU's country list. From Fall 2027, IB English A needs 4 at Higher or Standard Level instead of 5 at Higher Level, and one three-credit undergraduate English course at C- replaces six transferable credits. CapU's EAP 100 and 101 at B+ also qualify.

If you believe your English is strong enough without meeting a listed route, you can submit CapU's English Language Waiver Form to Admissions in the Registrar's Office; CapU may then ask you to take an English examination for your program area. Tests taken more than two years before your application are not considered.

CapU's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, and CLB 7 too if you graduate from "any other university program", which must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The lower CLB 5 applies only to college, polytechnic and other non-university programs. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in each skill (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
