Where can I take IELTS in Australia?

If you need IELTS for a UK visa while living in Australia, only two centres run it: IDP Sydney CBD and IDP Melbourne, at AUD 505. IELTS Life Skills A1 and B1 (for UK family and settlement routes) run only at IDP's Sydney and Melbourne Life Skills venues, at AUD 390. From Perth, Brisbane or Adelaide that means travelling interstate.

One Skill Retake (AUD 310) is offered at 18 of the 20 centres; Tamworth and Albury-Wodonga are the exceptions. You can retake at a different eligible centre from your first test, within 60 days, using the same passport (IDP One Skill Retake).

The fee is the same everywhere, so choose on dates, travel and format. Sydney has three general venues (CBD, Parramatta, Kensington) and Melbourne three (IDP CBD and two AIL venues), which usually means more sessions. If you write faster by hand, pick a centre with Writing on Paper; the other three skills stay on computer.

A booking cannot be moved to a different test centre, so choose carefully. You can still change the date, format or module once free at the same centre (IDP policy). Fees, refunds and the Home Affairs rules are in our IELTS fee in Australia guide; test-day rules are in IELTS test day rules.
