What IELTS score does Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) require?

KPU's admissions FAQ says international students who did not complete high school in Canada or "in a country where English is an official language" must use external testing. KPU does not list which countries count, so Indian applicants should confirm with KPU International before relying on Class XII English instead of a test.

Other routes in the calendar are 3 credits of undergraduate English at C- or better, or a bachelor's degree, two-year diploma or 60 credits with a CGPA of 2.0, from a recognised institution where English is the primary language of instruction. All test scores must be from within two years of the term of admission.

KPU's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). For the PGWP, IRCC's eligibility page asks for CLB 7 for a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree and for "any other university program", and CLB 5 for "any other college, polytechnic or non-university program". KPU is a polytechnic university, and IRCC's pages do not say which of those bands its certificates, diplomas and post-baccalaureate diplomas fall under.

KPU's own PGWP advising page lists CLB 7, which is 6.0 in each skill on IELTS General Training (IRCC score table), as the minimum, without separating program types, so plan for CLB 7 unless KPU or IRCC tells you otherwise. Programs other than a bachelor's, master's or doctorate must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
