Why the approved list matters
For a UK visa your test must be on the approved list, sat at an approved test location and awarded in the two years before you apply (gov.uk). Gov.uk tells you to book on the provider's website and not to contact a centre directly. You should be able to take a test within 28 days of booking, though not always at the nearest location.

On the day
Bring an original, current identity document with your photo that matches your booking, such as a passport; in the UK an eVisa share code can also be used (gov.uk). LanguageCert suggests arriving 30 minutes early, takes a photo for your Test Report, and gives you somewhere to store your belongings (LanguageCert).
Minimum scores are on gov.uk's approved test list; see LanguageCert scores for UK visas and the LanguageCert fee guide. If you would rather sit IELTS for UKVI, try a practice test.
