Online tests, validity and the IELTS level

The page says PTE Academic Online has not been recognised since 1 May 2023, along with IELTS Online and TOEFL iBT Home Edition. Test scores must be less than two years old on the date your course starts, and if you have several tests in that period Macquarie considers your single best test result, so scores from different sittings are not combined.

The page also keeps the scores that applied until 28 February 2026, when the Competent level was PTE 58 with 52 in each skill. The page names no Pearson institution code.

Macquarie's page does not list PTE Core. Pearson's PTE Core FAQ says PTE Core is initially only suitable for work and migration visa routes to Canada and that PTE Academic is the test accepted for university study. For comparison, the Competent level for most courses is IELTS Academic 6.5 with 6.0 in each band.

If your PTE score falls short

The same table sets lower PTE entry scores for Macquarie's own pathways: 52 for the Intensive Program Diploma and Masters Qualifying Program, and 46 for the Standard Foundation Program. These are Macquarie's own pathway programs.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Macquarie programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
