What IELTS score does Mount Saint Vincent University require?

If your score is below the minimum, MSVU offers conditional admission and you can finish any English program at a pathway partner. Undergraduate partners are Apex Language Career College, Atlantic Canada Language Academy, Canadian Language Learning College, ICEAP, International Language Institute and Sprott Shaw Language College. Graduate partners are ACLA (minimum CLB level 9) and Apex (minimum 85%), and concurrent enrolment in an undergraduate course is mandatory on that route.

The pathway is not open to applicants for the Doctor of Psychology, MA in School Psychology, Master of Public Relations or MA in Communication, who must submit test scores. The graduate calendar adds that conditionally admitted graduate students with IELTS 6.5 to 6.9 must complete the Graduate Preparatory Program: an intensive 15 hours a week at the International Education Centre plus one undergraduate course, passed at 75% and a B.

MSVU's international admission page says English test scores "may be required" for Indian Higher Secondary certificates, while Bangladesh and Nepal are listed as "required". A test validity period and a position on IELTS One Skill Retake are not stated by MSVU.

MSVU's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, and CLB 7 too if you graduate from "any other university program", which must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The lower CLB 5 applies only to college, polytechnic and other non-university programs. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in each skill (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
