NAIT English test minimums
Scores are from NAIT's English language proficiency page. NAIT sets IELTS by section, not overall: you need 6.0 in each of Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. TOEFL iBT (Home Edition accepted) is 70 with 17 in each section before 21 January 2026, and 4.0 with 4.0 in each section from that date. PTE Academic online is accepted too.
Other options: CAEL or CAEL Online 60 overall, CLB 8 in each section, Cambridge English 169 in each section, Michigan English Test 59, and LanguageCert. Separate scores for nursing or health programs are not stated by NAIT on this page.
| Level | IELTS Academic | TOEFL iBT | PTE Academic | Duolingo |

| Business Administration (provisional) | 5.5 overall, 5.5 in each section | 56 (14 each) | 50, no skill below 40 | 100, Production 100 |
Validity, One Skill Retake and sending scores
ELP test results are valid for two years from the test date. NAIT accepts IELTS Academic in person or online and also accepts IELTS One Skill Retake.
Choose NAIT as a score recipient when you book, and also upload a copy of your results in MyNAIT; NAIT says skipping either step can delay your decision.

Business Administration applicants who meet the academic requirements but only reach the lower scores in the table can get provisional admission and must finish NAIT's ESL Level 6 courses within the first 12 months of the program. Three years of English-medium high school in Canada or an exempt country, two years of for-credit post-secondary study there, or Cambridge O and/or A levels can also meet the requirement.
Study permit and PGWP: separate rules
NAIT's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree or from any other university program, and CLB 5 for any other college, polytechnic or non-university program, so a bachelor's degree earned at a college still needs CLB 7. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in every skill and CLB 5 is Reading 4.0 and Writing, Listening and Speaking 5.0 (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic, and college programs also face a field-of-study rule if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024 (see IELTS for the PGWP).
