Sending scores and the IELTS comparison
SLU requires scores to be submitted directly by testing agencies and asks you to allow time for them to connect to your application portal. The page states two-year validity for TOEFL and IELTS but gives no Duolingo validity or subscores.

Placement and English programmes
All incoming students take an English writing placement exam and may need to sit the SLU Writing Exam (SLUWE). You may be required to take academic English courses before or alongside your programme. If you do not meet direct entry, SLU encourages you to apply to the English Language programmes offered by INTO Saint Louis University.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your SLU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
