Sapienza minimum scores by programme
From Sapienza's academic requirements for the 2026-2027 MoveIN pre-selection, which lists entry requirements programme by programme.
| Programmes | IELTS | Other accepted tests |
|---|---|---|
| Most English-taught bachelor's and master's (B2), including Computer Science, Data Science, Cybersecurity, AI and Robotics | 5.5 | TOEFL iBT 80, Cambridge B2 First, Trinity ISE II |
| MSc Chemical Engineering | 6.0 | Listed in the programme entry |
| MSc Business Management (C1) | 6.5 | TOEFL iBT 95, Trinity ISE III, TOEIC (all four skills) |
| MA English and Anglo-American Studies | 7.0 (Academic) | Listed in the programme entry |
Who is exempt
Most programme entries waive the English requirement for native speakers, for holders of an English-taught diploma or degree from an accredited institution in the EU, EEA or Schengen area, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, the UK or the US, and for IB, GCSE or comparable certificates. An English-medium degree from India, Pakistan or Nigeria is not in that list, so plan on a test score.
Some entries, such as Computer Science and Chemical Engineering, also accept the IELTS Academic home-based test. MSc Business Management may interview applicants and admits only 100 candidates.

MoveIN deadlines
For 2026-2027 the MoveIN pre-selection deadline for visa-seeking applicants was 15 May 2026, and 31 July 2026 for everyone else. Sapienza says it does not cooperate with any agency and issues pre-acceptance letters only through MoveIN.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Sapienza programme page and in your offer, so check it there before you book a test.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Sapienza University of Rome publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
