Test rules and how to send your score
The graduate catalogue says tests must be taken no more than 24 months before the term you are applying for, that official scores go only to the Graduate School Admissions Office, and that you upload a photocopy of your score report with the online application. The graduate admissions page says official scores should be sent electronically to gradadmissions@siu.edu. None of the pages mentions PTE Academic Online or PTE Core.
On the same pages, IELTS 6.0 sits alongside PTE 47 for undergraduates and IELTS 6.5 alongside PTE 64 for graduates, so the graduate PTE bar is relatively high.

If you fall short
Undergraduates can meet the requirement with a Certificate of Completion from SIU's Center for English as a Second Language. Graduate applicants with a GSE Certificate of Completion from CESL can be waived. The graduate page adds that a waiver applies to admission only: international teaching assistants must pass the ITA Interview.
Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your SIU programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
