What IELTS score do you need for Southern Illinois University Carbondale?

Tests must be taken no more than 24 months before the term you are applying for, and some programs ask for higher scores or a specific test. Upload a photocopy of your score report with the application; official scores go only to the Graduate School Admissions Office. What satisfies the requirement is decided by the Graduate School, not the program. See international graduate admissions.

You can be exempt with a bachelor's (minimum GPA 2.7 on a 4.0 scale) or a master's or higher (minimum 3.0) from a country on SIU's list, completed within five years of your first semester. India is on that list; Pakistan is not. Pakistani and other applicants can instead show that English was the sole medium of instruction through an official institution letter, and may then be asked to complete LING 290 in the first year. Applicants who meet everything except English can be considered for conditional admission with their program's support. You still submit a recent test score, however low, and receive a training-language I-20 to study at the Center for English as a Second Language (CESL) before entering the degree.

Undergraduate applicants need TOEFL 68 (520 paper-based), iTEP Academic Plus 3.6, IELTS 6.0, Duolingo 95, PTE 47 or a CESL Certificate of Completion. The requirement is waived for applicants from countries where English is the primary language, a list that includes India, and for two US English composition courses with A or B grades, more than 48 US credit hours, two final years of US high school, or ACT 23 / SAT 1140.
