What IELTS score do you need for the State University of New York at New Paltz?

Applicants whose native language is not English, and anyone whose undergraduate degree is from a country where English is not the main language of instruction, must show English. Departments may require a different score, so check yours. Alternatives are a certificate from New Paltz's Haggerty English Language Program, or a US college degree earned no more than three years before you apply. Applicants admitted with only marginal English take a placement exam on arrival (grammar, reading, listening, an interview and a writing sample) and further English instruction, and must reach the required level before starting graduate courses.

New Paltz treats a three-year bachelor's degree from India as equivalent to a US bachelor's if it was earned in Division or Class I at a university accredited by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) with a grade of A. Undergraduates need TOEFL 80 (old scale) or 4.0 with no band below 3.5, IELTS 6.5 with no band below 6.0, PTE Academic 58, SAT Reading and Writing 550, or English Composition I and II at C+ or better.
