What IELTS score do you need for Texas Southern University?

The graduate catalog lists TOEFL 79, IELTS band 6 or Duolingo 105, or an equivalent score from an approved English as a Second Language program. The Graduate School FAQ gives the same TOEFL and IELTS minimums and says the test is not needed if you hold an undergraduate degree from a US college or university. International graduate applicants also need a course-by-course transcript evaluation from a TSU-approved provider, and some programs ask for GRE or GMAT scores.

Freshman and transfer applicants need TOEFL iBT 61 (500 paper-based) or IELTS 5.0. They are exempt after graduating from a US high school, transferring from a US college, or as native speakers from listed countries, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Jamaica, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand and the UK. The Thurgood Marshall School of Law asks JD and LLM applicants whose first language, or whose undergraduate or law instruction, was not English for TOEFL iBT 85 (Writing at least 24, Reading and Listening at least 15), IELTS 6.5 with a preference for no section below 6.5, or Duolingo 110.
