Auckland PTE minimums by level

From Auckland's undergraduate and postgraduate English language requirement pages. Both describe the PTE score as the approved equivalent of the IELTS level for that study level. The undergraduate page adds that some Arts and Education programmes need extra evidence for professional registration, and some accept only IELTS.

Test rules and sending your scores

Both pages say you must meet the requirement in one sitting, and that results are valid for two years from the date on the certificate to the start of your studies. The pages list PTE Academic only and say nothing about PTE Academic Online.

Auckland's PTE results page explains that Pearson does not send hard-copy results, so you log in to your PTE account, click "Send Scores", search for "University of Auckland", and then upload your uncertified score report in the application portal.

Pearson's own PTE Core FAQ describes PTE Core as a general English test that is initially suitable only for work and migration routes to Canada, and says PTE Academic is the test accepted for university study.

For comparison, the same pages set IELTS Academic at 6.0 with no band below 5.5 for undergraduate study and 6.5 with no band below 6.0 for postgraduate study.

If your PTE score falls short

Auckland's English Language Academy runs pathway programmes that count instead of a test. For undergraduate entry the pages accept a C- in the Foundation Certificate in English for Academic Purposes (FCertEAP) or the English Pathway for Undergraduate Studies (EPUS), equivalent to IELTS 6.0. For postgraduate entry they accept B- in FCertEAP or the English Pathway for Postgraduate Studies (EPPS), equivalent to IELTS 6.5. These courses are at your own expense.

Requirements vary by programme and change between admissions cycles. The score that binds you is the one on your Auckland programme page and in your offer letter, so check it there before you book a test.
