University of Saskatchewan English test minimums
Undergraduate scores are from USask's English language proficiency page; graduate scores are from the graduate admission requirements page. TOEFL iBT, including the Special Home Edition, needs 4.5 with 4 in each section; older 0–120 scores taken before 21 January 2026 still count at 86 with 19 per component. The graduate page says the Institutional TOEFL (ITP) is not accepted.
Duolingo needs 120 with 100 in each area; for undergraduates this applies from 1 January 2026. CAEL needs 70 with 60 in each section, and Cambridge C1 Advanced needs 176, at both levels.
| Level | IELTS Academic | TOEFL iBT | PTE Academic | Duolingo |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Undergraduate | 6.5, 6.0 each band | 4.5 (4 each) or 86 (19 each) | 63, 59 each skill | 120, 100 each area |
| Graduate (minimum) | 6.5, no score below 6.0 | 4.5 (4.0 each) or 86 (19 each) | 63, 59 each area | 120, 100 each area |
Program examples, single sitting and validity
Graduate programs can set higher scores. For example, the Computer Science graduate page lists IELTS 7.0 with no score below 6.5, TOEFL 4.5 and Duolingo 120 with no score below 115.
At both levels, all scores must come from one exam date and cannot be combined across sittings. Tests are valid for two years and must still be valid at the start of your first term; graduate applicants who defer must hold a valid score for the new start date. A position on IELTS One Skill Retake is not stated by USask.

The University of Regina's English for Academic Purposes courses EAP 100 and EAP 101 are accepted at both levels. The USask Language Centre has closed permanently, but its EAP Level 4 completions are still considered for up to two years.
Study permit and PGWP: separate rules
The University of Saskatchewan's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again: university graduates need CLB 7 in all four skills, proved with IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
