What IELTS score do you need for the University of Toledo?

Scores must go directly from the testing service to Graduate Admissions; paper or uploaded copies are not accepted, and scores must still be valid on the first day of your program. UToledo can ask any applicant for further evidence of English. See graduate English proficiency.

Instead of a test, you can hold a degree with a 2.7 GPA from a US college, from a CHEA-member non-US university where English is the official language of instruction, or from a university in a listed country where English is that institution's language of instruction. The list includes Canada, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, South Africa and the UK; India and Pakistan are not on it. Research-only degrees do not count. A third route is the Graduate Access Program pathway at UToledo's American Language Institute.

Undergraduates can submit TOEFL 71 (before 21 January 2026) or 4 (after), IELTS 6.0, PTE 48, Duolingo 105, Cambridge 170, Michigan English Test 52, iTEP 3.7, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 510 or ACT English 21. Scores more than two years old are not accepted, and you can email a PDF while official scores are on the way. The ETS code is 1845. See undergraduate English requirements.

On an individual basis, UToledo waives the requirement for a diploma from a US or international high school where English is the only language of instruction, if you graduated less than two years ago. Students who qualify academically but need more English are admitted to the American Language Institute.
