What IELTS score do you need for the University of Texas at Tyler?

Applicants with an undergraduate degree from a foreign institution must submit an English test before admission is granted. UT Tyler accepts the TOEFL (79 iBT or 550 paper-based, or 4 overall on the updated scale), PTE Academic 53, IELTS 6.5 with 6.0 in each section, Duolingo 105 or EIKEN Grade 1. The TOEFL code is 6850; IELTS needs no institution code, so ask your test centre to send the result electronically to UT Tyler's Office of Graduate Admissions. See graduate admission requirements.

Education programs that lead to Texas teacher certification also list TOEFL iBT section minimums accepted by the Texas Education Agency, so check the program block on the same page if you plan to teach in Texas.

You do not need a test with a US high school diploma or a US associate, bachelor's, master's, doctoral or professional degree; with a B or better in ENGL 1301 and 1302 at an accredited US institution; after Level 6 (all A grades) or Level 7 (all B grades or higher) at UT Tyler's Intensive English Language Institute; or as a naturalised US citizen.

Citizens of, or degree holders from, listed countries are also exempt. The list includes Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Liberia, Sierra Leone, the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada (except Quebec) and several Caribbean countries. India, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh are not listed, and no medium-of-instruction waiver is offered. See international admissions.
