What IELTS score do you need for Utah State University?

Graduate applicants can use TOEFL iBT 79 (550 paper-based), IELTS 6.5 overall with at least 5.0 on each subscale, the Michigan English Test at 55, Cambridge B2 First, C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency at 176, or Duolingo 105. The policy page does not give a TOEFL figure on the new 1–6 scale. Departments may set higher minimums and their own test rules. See admissions policies.

Two years of college in a listed country (including the UK, Ireland, Canada except Quebec, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, the Philippines, Nigeria and Kenya) with English as the language of instruction counts as proof. India and Pakistan are not listed, but applicants who studied in other countries at institutions with English as the official language of instruction can have the registrar send an official letter to the School of Graduate Studies, or rely on an official transcript that clearly lists English as the language of instruction. Because of immigration rules, international students cannot be admitted to provisional matriculation.

Undergraduates can use TOEFL iBT 71 (4.0 on the 1–6 scale for tests from 21 January 2026, Home Edition accepted), IELTS Academic 6.0 with at least 5.0 per subscale (General Training is not accepted), MET 52, Cambridge 169, Duolingo 105, SAT Evidence-Based Reading and Writing 500, ACT English 18, at least three years of English-medium secondary school, or 24 credits of US university coursework.
