Band 8 model answer

Band 8253 words, about two minutes at a natural pace. Details are invented; use your own.

I would like to talk about my cousin, Liam, who is an absolute festival fanatic. Whenever there is any sort of cultural celebration happening, whether it is an annual folk music weekend, an autumn harvest fair, or an international lantern festival in the city centre, you can pretty much guarantee he will be right in the middle of it.

Liam tends to seek out events that showcase regional heritage, folk music, and traditional crafts. For instance, last summer he drove up to a coastal village to take part in a maritime festival featuring traditional sea shanties, wood-carving workshops, and locally caught seafood. He does not just stick to local happenings either; he regularly plans short holiday breaks across the country specifically to catch these gatherings. During the peak spring and summer months, he attends something almost every fortnight, often camping in a field or staying in a modest bed-and-breakfast to soak up the full weekend atmosphere.

As for why he enjoys it so much, I think it boils down to his curiosity and deep appreciation of community spirit. Liam genuinely thrives on lively, communal atmospheres where people are passionate about keeping customs alive. He loves chatting with local artisans, sampling authentic home-made dishes, and experiencing regional folklore firsthand rather than simply reading about it. On top of that, he works a fairly mundane office job during the week, so throwing himself into these colourful, sensory-rich celebrations serves as the ultimate antidote to his daily routine. His enthusiasm is completely infectious, to be honest.
