Band 8 model answer

Band 8266 words, about two minutes at a natural pace. Details are invented; use your own.

I would like to talk about my close friend Rachel, who is genuinely the heart and soul of our wider social circle. Whenever there is any excuse for a celebration, be it a milestone birthday, a summer barbecue, or just a casual weekend dinner, she is always the very first person to step forward and take charge of hosting.

Rachel arranges all sorts of events, but she really excels at themed dinner parties and seasonal festivities. For instance, last winter she threw a wonderful festive gathering at her flat. She spent days preparing homemade treats, putting up fairy lights, and curating a playlist to set the mood. What sets her apart is her hospitality rather than just running through a logistical checklist. She caters to everyone's dietary preferences without making a fuss, sets up light-hearted icebreaker games so newcomers feel welcome, and makes sure nobody is left standing awkwardly on their own.

When preparing for an event, she gets completely immersed in the creative atmosphere. She often crafts personalised invitations, experiments with new recipes, and rearranges her living room to create a warm, inviting space. On the night, she manages to circulate effortlessly, topping up drinks, introducing different groups of friends to each other, and keeping the energy upbeat from start to finish.

As for why she loves it, I think Rachel simply thrives on human connection. She gets immense satisfaction from seeing people let their hair down and build lasting memories under her roof. For her, hosting is not about showing off; it is genuinely about fostering a vibrant, supportive community where everyone feels included.
