Tips
How to answer IELTS Reading Multiple Answers questions
- 1
Read each group's instructions first. Check how many letters it needs and which answer boxes belong to that group.
- 2
Find the relevant part of the passage and compare every option with the complete question, not just a repeated word.
- 3
Separate what the writer confirms from plans, possibilities and claims that go beyond the text.
- 4
Put one distinct letter in each numbered box. Within a group, the correct letters can be entered in any order.
- 5
Check every group before submitting. A correct letter earns one mark; a wrong or blank answer earns zero, without subtracting marks from correct choices.

Avoid these
Common Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE mistakes
- Stopping after one convincing option when the instructions require two or three.
- Choosing an option that is true elsewhere in the passage but does not answer this group's question.
- Treating a proposed action as something the researchers have already done.
- Repeating a letter within one group instead of choosing distinct supported answers.

Try the full passage: choose TWO and THREE letters
Read the passage and all options for each group before choosing. The drill has seven answer boxes across three groups. Check your answers for the complete key and explanations; a single letter is not a complete answer to a multi-answer group.

How do Choose TWO and Choose THREE questions differ?+
They require two or three distinct answers from that group's options. The instructions specify the required number and available letters; option counts can vary. This drill includes both formats.
Is one correct answer enough for any credit?+
Yes. Each correct answer earns one mark. If a two-answer group has one correct and one wrong letter, you earn one of its two marks. Repeating the same correct letter does not earn a second mark.
Does this seven-question practice give an IELTS band?+
No. It gives a raw mark out of seven with answer explanations. A full Reading test has 40 questions; this short drill cannot predict your band.
How many Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE questions are in the IELTS Reading test?+
There is no fixed number. The test has 40 questions across three passages, and Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE usually comes as one block of questions on a single passage; some tests leave it out. The drills here have 7 questions each.
How long should I spend on Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE questions?+
IELTS Academic Reading gives you 60 minutes for three passages, so allow about 20 minutes per passage, including its Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE questions. One drill here takes about 10 minutes.
Do these Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE practice questions have answers?+
Yes. Every drill has an answer key with an explanation for each question, and your answers are marked instantly.
How are Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE questions marked?+
Each correct answer is one mark, and your total out of 40 becomes your band: in Academic Reading, about 15 correct answers out of 40 gives band 5, 23 gives band 6, 30 gives band 7 and 35 gives band 8.
Is Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE in IELTS General Training Reading too?+
Yes. Both papers use the same question types; only the texts differ. In our General Training practice, Multiple Choice: Choose TWO or THREE drills are in Section 1 and Section 2 and Section 3.
