PTE points calculator for Australian PR
English ability is worth 0, 10 or 20 points on the skilled migration points test: Competent, Proficient or Superior English. With PTE Academic, each of the four skills has its own minimum, and the minimums changed for tests taken from 7 August 2025. Enter your scores to see your level, your points and how far each skill is from the next level.

PTE Academic scores and points
| Level | Listening | Reading | Writing | Speaking | Before 7 Aug 2025 |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Competent (0 pts) | 47 | 48 | 51 | 54 | 50 each |
| Proficient (10 pts) | 58 | 59 | 69 | 76 | 65 each |
| Superior (20 pts) | 69 | 70 | 85 | 88 | 79 each |
Tests taken on or before 6 August 2025 use the old single minimum in every skill (50, 65 or 79) and can be used until 6 August 2028, depending on the visa. PTE Core is not on the Australian list; use PTE Academic.
What changed on 7 August 2025
The old rule was one number for every skill: 65 for Proficient, 79 for Superior. The new table sets writing and speaking much higher than listening and reading. As a result, PTE 65 in every skill is now Competent English (0 points), and PTE 79 in every skill is Proficient English (10 points), not Superior.
