What IELTS score do you need for Emily Carr University?

If you studied at a school affiliated with CBSE or CISCE, completing the Indian Senior School Certificate or Indian School Certificate with at least 75% in your senior English subject meets the requirement. ECU accepts pre-board results while you are still in Class 12. State boards are not named.

Three consecutive years of full-time study in English at an accredited secondary school with at least a C (60%) average also exempts you if the school is in a listed country; the list includes Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Singapore and the UK. Six credits of first-year English, or a completed degree taught in English, also count.

ECU's Creative Art Pathway is for international students who meet the academic and portfolio requirements but need more English: it combines English upgrading with studio courses at ECU. Academically, international secondary applicants need 67% on the five courses that best match British Columbia's requirements.

ECU's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree, and CLB 7 too if you graduate from any other university program, which must also be in an eligible field of study if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024. The lower CLB 5 applies only to college, polytechnic and other non-university programs. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in each skill (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic (see IELTS for the PGWP).
