What IELTS score do you need for Hunter College?

Applicants whose native language is not English, or who took all or part of their post-secondary education in a country where English is not the native language, must take the test regardless of citizenship or US permanent residence. Hunter accepts TOEFL, IELTS or PTE depending on the program, advises testing at least nine months before you plan to enrol, and lists institution code 2301. The catalog's "or higher (for specific graduate programs)" means the 6.5 floor is not always enough. CUNY's central graduate international page also notes that Hunter program requirements may be higher than the college minimum, and that students from India, Bangladesh and Pakistan are still required to take the test.

First-year applicants apply through CUNY. CUNY's comparison table lists Hunter at TOEFL 61, IELTS Academic 6, PTE 53 and Duolingo 85; the Hunter undergraduate catalog gives TOEFL 61 (500 paper-based), IELTS 6 and PTE 44, so if your PTE score sits between the two, check with Hunter.
