Can you take IELTS in Ukraine, and how much does it cost?

The fee is on the British Council's Ukrainian booking page. IELTS Online has the same format and timing as IELTS Academic at a centre, with the Speaking test by video call with an examiner. You need to be 18 or over, hold a valid international passport, sit alone in a private, well-lit room, and use a computer or laptop (not a tablet or phone) with the Inspera Exam Portal app installed. Electronic results arrive 6 to 8 calendar days after the test.

The catch is recognition. The British Council says IELTS Online is not accepted by immigration authorities, so it suits university applications only, and only where the university confirms it accepts the online test. Compare formats in IELTS Online vs computer vs paper.

The British Council's FAQ says Ukrainians can register at any British Council centre in more than 100 countries, and its UKVI page names Poland for IELTS for UKVI. These are the fees on ielts.org and IDP's session lists in neighbouring countries on 14 October 2026; you pay the local fee of the country where you sit.

The British Council's Ukrainian refund policy gives back 75% if you cancel 15 or more days before the test and nothing within 14 days. With a medical certificate in Ukrainian or English sent within two calendar days of the test, you get the fee back minus 25%. Refunds are paid only to bank accounts in Ukraine, and the British Council cannot pay banks under UK or other relevant sanctions. IELTS Online has its own cancellation rules.

If a test you had booked was cancelled because of the war, the FAQ says you get a full refund through the normal refund procedure. See IELTS fee in Poland for the nearest UKVI centre, and take a free IELTS mock test before you pay.
