Where can I take IELTS in Ghana?

IDP runs IELTS in Accra and Kumasi, with a separate IELTS for UKVI centre in Accra. The British Council's booking system showed sessions in five places on 10 October 2026: Accra, Kumasi, Tema, Takoradi and Tamale. Its IELTS for UKVI ran in Accra and Kumasi, and Life Skills in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi. All tests are on computer.

IELTS test cities in Ghana by provider

City lists come from IDP's Ghana test centre finder and the British Council's dates page and booking system, searched for sessions up to March 2027. The British Council lists one of its Kumasi venues under Adum, the city centre. We give cities, not addresses.

How to choose a centre

The standard fee is GHS 3,720 everywhere, so pick on date and distance. Accra has the most dates: IDP showed 180 upcoming Accra sessions and 190 in Kumasi on 10 October 2026, while the British Council had only four to six dates each in Tema, Takoradi and Tamale between October 2026 and March 2027. Book those early (British Council).

For a UK visa, IELTS for UKVI is in Accra (both providers) and Kumasi (British Council only), and the British Council is GHS 800 cheaper. Life Skills A1 and B1 ran in Accra, Kumasi and Takoradi; no A2 dates were open when we checked. Nurses should book IELTS Academic at a centre for the NMC, not IELTS Online.

The British Council in Ghana also runs IELTS in Abidjan (Côte d'Ivoire) and Lomé (Togo), which can help candidates near the borders.

Booking an IELTS centre

Book online with the provider that runs the centre. The British Council asks non-Ghanaians who booked after 10 December 2024 to email proof of residence at least three days before the test. Fees, payment methods and refund rules are in IELTS exam fee in Ghana.
