Can I reschedule or cancel my PTE test and get a refund?

Pearson lets you reschedule free while more than 14 full calendar days remain, up to six times per booking. Inside 14 days you cannot reschedule, only cancel and rebook. Cancelling more than 14 days ahead refunds 100%, between 14 and 7 days refunds 50%, and 7 days or less refunds nothing. The rules apply to every PTE test; only the fee varies by country.

The deadlines and what you get back

From Pearson's cancellation and rescheduling policy (last updated 17 September 2026) and refund policy. The rupee column is our arithmetic on the ₹18,900 PTE Academic fee shown for India in Pearson's price finder on 4 October 2026.

The clock runs to the minute from your booked test time. Pearson's own example: for a test on 17 April at 2:00 pm, cancelling before 3 April at 2:00 pm gets 100%, cancelling up to 10 April at 1:59:59 pm gets 50%, and anything later gets nothing.

The Academic handbook (July 2025) words the bands slightly differently (13 to 8 days for 50%). The policy pages are newer, so we follow them; if you are close to a boundary, cancel earlier rather than later.

Fees for changes

Rescheduling is free while it is allowed. Pearson's policy says a fee applies after the 14-day point, but no separate rescheduling fee amount is stated by Pearson. In practice the cost is the part of the test fee you lose by cancelling, plus a new booking at full price. The handbook adds that vouchers can pay a test fee but not a rescheduling fee.

Test fees differ by country and by test. On 4 October 2026 the price finder showed PTE Academic, Academic UKVI and Core at ₹18,900 in India, £230 in the UK and CA$360 in Canada, and PTE Home at ₹15,300, £170 and CA$305.

Illness and family emergencies

If illness or a family emergency stops you attending, Pearson may let you reschedule free of charge. Submit the Request Emergency Reschedule form with evidence as soon as you know; the policy says it must be submitted no later than 72 hours after your appointment. Accepting the evidence is at Pearson's discretion, and there is no automatic right to a refund or rebooking (policy).

Vouchers, card refunds and Pearson cancellations

Pearson does not refund voucher bookings directly; go back to the seller you bought the voucher from. Card payments are refunded to the original card or bank account. If Pearson cancels or reschedules your test, it arranges a refund or a new date or centre (handbook). The PTE Home handbook also says you must arrive at least 30 minutes early; a late arrival is not allowed to sit the test and loses the fee.
