Champlain's English and French requirements
From Champlain's how to apply page. The page lists only IELTS and TOEFL for English, so do not book PTE or Duolingo without asking admissions first.
| Requirement | Minimum |
|---|---|
| IELTS | 6.5 overall, or 6.0 with no component under 5.5 |
| TOEFL | 75 internet-based, or 540 paper-based |
| French (studied outside Quebec) | At least 180 hours of French instruction; TFI or TCF tout public results are evaluated, and you may need extra French upgrading courses that Champlain does not offer |
Winter 2027 dates and the international documents
Applications for Winter 2027 open on 24 September 2026 with a 1 November deadline, and the programs open for winter are Health Science, Pure and Applied Science, and Social Science (General, without Math). International applicants may only apply for a winter semester if they hold a student visa valid until the end of that semester.
Certificate of Eligibility holders get priority under Quebec's Law 14. International applicants need a credential equivalent to Quebec's Secondary V diploma and an attestation of equivalence from the Quebec immigration ministry; evaluation documents are due by 1 June and the CAQ, study permit and other documents by 1 August. Students in three-year technical programs also need a work permit for the sixth-semester field placement.

Study permit and PGWP: separate rules
Champlain Saint-Lambert's scores decide admission only. IRCC sets no minimum English score for a study permit; any language condition is written into your letter of acceptance (see IELTS for a Canada study permit). The Post-Graduation Work Permit is a separate test again. IRCC's PGWP eligibility page asks for CLB 7 in all four skills if you graduate with a bachelor's, master's or doctoral degree or from any other university program, and CLB 5 for any other college, polytechnic or non-university program. On IELTS General Training, CLB 7 is 6.0 in every skill and CLB 5 is Reading 4.0 and Writing, Listening and Speaking 5.0 (IRCC score table). The PGWP takes IELTS General Training, CELPIP-General or PTE Core, not IELTS Academic, and college programs also face a field-of-study rule if you applied for your study permit on or after 1 November 2024 (see IELTS for the PGWP). In Quebec there is one more step first: after you accept your offer you need a Certificat d'acceptation du Québec (CAQ) from the Quebec immigration ministry, and only then can you apply for the federal study permit.
Minimum vs competitive score
Where Champlain College Saint-Lambert publishes an IELTS score, it is the minimum: the floor an application has to meet to be considered, not a score that guarantees an offer.
Competitive programmes, and courses with far more applicants than places, may expect more than the minimum, and some departments set their own overall or per-skill scores, often for writing or speaking. The course page has the final word, so check it before you book a test.
If you are close to the line, aim for a margin above it: one weak skill can miss the requirement even when the overall band clears it. Not sure where you stand? Take a free IELTS mock test and get a band for each skill.
