How much is the IELTS exam fee in Italy in 2026?

Fees are flat across Italy at EUR 290, with two exceptions on ielts.org: IDP's Naples sessions, held at Objective English, cost EUR 284, and the British Council's Bergamo venue (British School, Seriate) shows EUR 284. ielts.org also lists a Politecnico di Torino venue run by International House Milan at EUR 165 (centre page); it does not appear on IDP's public Italian finder, so ask the centre whether it is open to everyone before you plan around it.

A British Council booking includes IELTS Ready Premium preparation material (British Council Italy). Both providers offer One Skill Retake after a computer test, so you can resit one skill within 60 days instead of all four (One Skill Retake). The British Council says IELTS Online is not accepted by immigration authorities.

The British Council in Italy takes a credit or debit card, PayPal, or Klarna if you want to pay in instalments without interest (dates, fees and locations). You need a valid identity card or passport, and the same document on test day. IDP asks you to upload a passport scan and finish payment by credit card (IDP Italy).

The British Council's Italian policy gives a full refund if you cancel an online booking within 14 days of the payment confirmation (the EU cooling-off right). After that, cancelling 15 or more days before the test returns 75%; within 14 days nothing. Transfers are free 15 or more days ahead and cost 25% within 5 to 14 days. IDP's Italian rules are the same apart from the cooling-off line. IELTS for UKVI and Life Skills follow the UKVI policy.

Check your university's score first, for example Bocconi, Politecnico di Milano or Sapienza. PTE Academic costs EUR 275 in Italy (PTE fee in Italy). Take a free IELTS mock test before paying.
