Where can I take IELTS in Germany?

The British Council offers IELTS for UKVI in Berlin and Frankfurt only (UKVI page), at EUR 308, with Life Skills A1 and B1 at EUR 206. It notes that some UKVI centres deliver Life Skills by video call with an examiner, taken at the centre. If you live in the south, Frankfurt is usually closer than Berlin.

If you cannot reach any centre and only need a university place, the British Council's IELTS Online lets you take IELTS Academic at home; it is not accepted by immigration authorities and you must be 18 or over (IELTS Online).

Price barely varies, so choose by date, city and provider. IDP's Germany finder lists only Tandem Frankfurt, which showed 24 upcoming sessions with results in 1 to 5 days and One Skill Retake available. British Council centres offer One Skill Retake on computer tests too, and since 1 July 2026 all its German tests are on computer. Cologne (EUR 276) is the cheapest centre on the list.
