PTE fees in Ethiopia
Pearson sets one price per test for the whole country, shown in its test centers and fees price finder when you choose Ethiopia. Unlike IELTS in Ethiopia, which is paid in birr by bank deposit, PTE is paid online by card in US dollars.
PTE Academic Online, the at-home version, is listed at the same price. Pearson says it is not currently accepted by governments for visa applications, so book it only for a university that accepts it.
| Test | Fee in Ethiopia | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| PTE Academic | USD 250 | Study and migration (Australia, New Zealand, UK universities and more) |
| PTE Academic UKVI | USD 250 | UK visas that need a four-skill SELT |
| PTE Core | USD 250 | Canadian economic immigration |
| PTE Home A1, A2, B1 | USD 210 each | UK family, extension and settlement routes |
| PTE Academic Online (at home) | USD 250 | Some universities only; not visas |
Reschedule and refund rules
Pearson's rules are the same everywhere (cancellation and rescheduling policy, last updated 17 September 2026, and refund policy). You can reschedule free while more than 14 full calendar days remain, up to six times per booking. Inside 14 days the Reschedule button disappears, so you must cancel and book again. A cancellation more than 14 days out refunds 100%, between 14 and 7 days 50%, and at 7 days or fewer nothing.
If illness or a family emergency stops you attending, Pearson may let you reschedule free at its discretion; submit the Request Emergency Reschedule form with evidence no later than 72 hours after the appointment. See our PTE reschedule, cancel and refund guide.
| Time left before the test | Reschedule | Refund if you cancel |
|---|---|---|
| More than 14 full calendar days | Free, up to 6 times | 100% |
| 14 days down to 7 days | Not possible: cancel and rebook | 50% |
| 7 days or fewer | Not possible: cancel and rebook | None |

How to book and pay
To book, create a myPTE account, choose the test, pick a centre and a slot at least 24 hours ahead, and pay. Pearson accepts American Express, Discover, Mastercard and Visa, and a voucher or promo code is entered at the payment step (Pearson booking guide). Your account name must match your passport exactly; it can be corrected up to 3 days before the test, never on test day, and a mismatch means no test and no refund.
PTE suits candidates who can pay by international card and want to avoid the bank-deposit steps IELTS uses in Ethiopia. One warning for nurses: the NMC accepts only IELTS Academic and OET, so PTE cannot be used for UK nursing registration, even though PTE Academic UKVI works for UK visas. Compare the options in OET vs PTE for nurses. Translate a band requirement with the PTE to IELTS converter, then take a free PTE mock test.
